The Headmaster offers places to the successful candidates after the ‘test and interview’ process has concluded. At this stage a request to complete an Acceptance Form and return an Entrance Deposit is sent to parents.
Receipt of the entrance deposit guarantees a place in the School subject to the prospective pupil qualifying for admission. In completing the Acceptance Form parents also confirm that Uppingham is their first choice of school.
The Entrance Deposit is £1,000 for candidates who live in the UK, and for those domiciled outside the UK the Entrance Deposit is equivalent to a term's fees.
An offer of a place in the School is conditional upon the pupil qualifying academically in the academic year before entrance, and on his or her record of conduct. The latter is deemed satisfactory if the Head of the current school says it is at the time when the qualifying examination is taken. Most pupils are admitted in the September following their thirteenth birthday.
There are three possible ways of qualifying academically: -
To continue into the Sixth Form all Uppingham pupils are required to achieve six passes of grade B, or above, in academic subjects at GCSE, excluding short-course GCSEs.
Offers of places are most usually made at the beginning of December, and parents of candidates are asked to accept or decline by December 8th.
When candidates are sitting for GCSEs, the minimum entry requirement for admission to the Sixth Form is six passes of grade B, or above, in academic subjects at GCSE, excluding short-course GCSEs or an equivalent qualification if GCSEs are not being taken. Offers made to candidates seeking to enter the Sixth Form will be subject to this minimum requirement.
In February or March prior to starting, a meeting is held at the School when parents and their son or daughter can meet Heads of Departments to discuss A level choices.
