Families that require extra financial support to attend Uppingham are eligible to apply for a bursary.

A bursary award can provide a discount of up to 110% on school fees. The award on offer is dependent on a family’s income and financial means. This is determined by a financial assessment or ‘means test’,  completed during the application process.

Bursary awards are made to pupils demonstrating a high level of attainment, promise or exceptional specialist aptitude.

Entry Requirements

Year 9 (Fourth Form)

Candidates sit pre-tests in Year 7.  Candidates selected following the pre-test, will confirm their place through success in two additional tests. These tests take place in Year 8 and include a final interview with a member of Uppingham staff. An updated reference from the candidate’s school is required.

Uppingham also offers limited spaces for entry at Year 11 (Lower Fifth).  For more information, please contact our Admissions Team in the first instance.

Year 12 (Sixth Form)

Sixth Form Candidates will attend a Test and Interview Day in Year 11.  If a candidate is successful, a conditional offer will be made with entry dependent on GCSE exam results. Candidates must obtain a minimum of three ‘7s’ and three ‘6s’ at GCSE.  Some subjects have additional grade requirements. Please see our Sixth Form Options guide, prior to application.

Application Process

Before applying applicants should be familiar with Uppingham’s Bursaries Policy

All candidates seeking a bursary must first register with the School.  For information or support on registration or the registration fee, please contact Admissions.

Once registered, candidates may contact the Registrar, Charlie Bostock, to request a bursary application form ('Blue Form'). The form requires details of household income, expenditure, assets and liabilities.  This information is assessed to determine the size of bursary a candidate may be entitled to.

All blue forms for new entrants must be submitted to the Finance Director by 15 October (Lower Sixth entrants) or 31 December (Fourth Form and Lower Fifth entrants) in the year before the proposed entry date. Late applications to the School will be considered, if space permits.

For further enquires regarding the application process or for information on visiting Uppingham, please email the Admissions Office.
