Fircroft is a boarding house for approximately 50 boys between 13 and 18 and was founded in 1871 by Reverend George Christian. It is one of the three ‘Hill Houses’ at Uppingham, has its own spacious gardens and is situated close to the Middle playing fields. It is renowned for its homely and inclusive atmosphere; Fircroftians excel in a wide range of areas of School life.
The Housemaster, Jim Reddy, was educated at Uppingham School and studied History at Selwyn College, Cambridge. He was then sponsored by Linklaters while at the College of Law in London, before working as a solicitor for four years in their offices in London and Singapore. After leaving the law, Jim entered the teaching profession at Whitgift School in Surrey, where he undertook various roles including Deputy Head of Sixth Form, Oxbridge Coordinator, Head of Third Form, and Head of Academic Admissions. He started at Uppingham in 2009 as a history master and tutor in Highfield, before taking over as Housemaster of Fircroft in 2011.
Jim is involved in coaching rugby and cricket at Uppingham; in addition he has directed House plays, runs the Law Society, Oxbridge History, Lower School History Society and is involved in the CCF. Jim is married to Emma and has three children, Annabel, Charlotte and Joseph.
