In the summer term girls can play tennis as a major sport. Training and fixtures occur on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays on the abundance of courts at the School. There are at least 12 teams fielded across all age groups, with at least three in each age group, and girls have the opportunity to play mixed and inter-house tennis.
Maria Davies oversees the coaching of girls’ tennis and is supported by a total of 8 staff. Tennis coaching is organised all year round for individual and small group coaching and development and in the summer term the School employs a number of professional tennis coaches.
There are a total of 39 tennis courts available to pupils in the summer term; 12 hard court tennis courts next to the USSC, with a further 24 astroturf courts and 3 Savannah courts used located at the Middle Playing Fields.
Competitive block fixtures against other schools occur weekly, usually in doubles format. All girls can represent their house in inter-house competitions and mixed matches are often played against other schools on the competitive tennis circuit. There is also the opportunity to play in internal singles competitions (Junior and Senior). The U14 age group has the opportunity to play in The Perse Invitational Tournament which involves singles and doubles matches.
