Uppingham has a professionally staffed and equipped health centre, which operates a 24 hour term time service run by Registered Nurses. The Woodfield Health Centre looks after pupils in a ‘holistic’ sense aiming where possible to promote good health and healthy lifestyles rather than dealing exclusively with ill health in a reactive sense. It provides a supportive and caring environment, which pupils may visit for guidance on all matters of physical and emotional health and well-being.
A doctor, appointed from the local practice, holds a surgery each morning in the Health Centre. Pupils may be referred by the School doctor to specialist consultants if required. A number of private practitioners work within the Health Centre and are available to see pupils if needed eg Physiotherapist, Osteopath, Educational Psychologist. The School also has trained counsellors (both dependent and independent) to whom pupils are free to go and chat in absolute confidence. In addition, the School operates a Private Medical Scheme to which parents can enrol their son or daughter for the duration of his or her time at Uppingham. In addition to this provision, each House has a Matron who is responsible to the Housemaster or Housemistress for the day-to-day health care of the House.
