Advice on Higher Education is the overall responsibility of the Head of Sixth Form. Decisions regarding a pupil's course and their possible destinations are largely made by each pupil and their parents following discussions with the Housemaster / Housemistress, subject teachers and our professional Careers Adviser, and there is a systematic programme towards application which starts in the second term of the Lower Sixth year.
Pupils have access to the diagnostic test, Centigrade, which can be helpful in refining their research, and during the Lower Sixth year they are encouraged to seek advice, visit institutions and examine prospectuses and other sources of information in order that they may submit an application in the first term of the Upper Sixth year. Practice interviews are also provided for those who require them.
Much of the onus for preparing a successful application is rightly put on the pupils, although there is, of course, a wealth of help and advice available from Housemasters / Housemistresses, tutors and specialist staff who can advise on the completion of the appropriate forms.
There is a very well-equipped Higher Education Room, which is stocked with prospectuses, material on subject areas and copious literature related to institutions, courses, and other aspects of life in post-school education. Further information is available online.
