Lorne House, a boys’ house, is one of the four ‘Town Houses’ and situated close to main school. It is the oldest of Uppingham’s houses still in its original location and has been extensively refurbished and modernised in recent years.
The House now offers single bedsit accommodation for the top three years whilst in the first two years every boy has an individual study and shares dormitories that subdivide the year groups. With a variety of common room facilities, the House also enjoys its own garden and shares a hard play area with School House.
The Housemaster, Andrew Huxter, joined Uppingham as Teacher of Geography in January 2014, and as a tutor in Brooklands; he became Housemaster in September 2015. He is involved in coaching rugby, hockey and athletics. In addition he is Master in Charge of Thring Scholars and runs the Advanced Infantry section of the CCF.
Andrew has a daughter Annabel and two dogs Alfie and Bonnie.
Andrew was educated at Epsom College and read Geography at the University of Durham. After graduating, he joined the Army, commissioning from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst into the Royal Green Jackets (now The Rifles). He served with 4 Rifles in Basra Palace in Iraq in 2007 before joining 2 Rifles in Northern Ireland as a Platoon Commander completing operational tours of Kosovo in 2008 and Afghanistan in 2009. He was then posted to Northumberland as Officer Commanding Army Recruiting Team 4 during which time he completed his MSc in Geographic Information Science from Birkbeck College, University of London. He first taught at Warwick School in 2011 and completed his PGCE with Buckingham University in his second year.
