We believe everyone is a Mathematician, and with encouragement in a supportive yet challenging environment they can surpass their expectations of what is achievable.
We want everyone to progress and feel confident learning Mathematics. We aim to teach the subject in a clear style showing that it is not just relevant to real-life activities but underpins many of the things we take for granted in today’s world, using current examples and technology to vary teaching styles. Relevance does not stop us from giving pupils a taste for Mathematical rigour and the sort of logical arguments that G H Hardy called the ‘austere beauty of the subject’.
In the last year we have entered larger than ever numbers of pupils for the Intermediate and Senior Maths Challenges, as well as the Maths Olympiad for Girls, with great success. Twenty five Gold awards were obtained, with eight pupils progressing to the British Maths Olympiad and one pupil gaining a Silver Medal and 100% in the Senior Challenge. The Maths First Team came second in the regional final. Ample support is given to those wanting extra help in weekly tutorials outside of lessons.
As well as gaining very good results at IGCSE, Additional Mathematics and A Level Mathematics and Further Mathematics pupils now have the opportunity to study Additional Further Mathematics and STEP. Over 60% of the Sixth Form study A Level Mathematics. Groups of students have regular sessions with a mentor tackling advanced problems beyond the syllabus.
