Maintaining high academic standards is a priority, and each pupil is closely monitored by a tutor as well as his or her Housemaster/Housemistress. Regular communication between subject teachers, tutors and Housemasters/Housemistresses is an important part of the academic culture of the School.
‘Prep’ is the period set aside every evening for private study. In the Lower School (the first three years) pupils are set three half-hour preps each day; in the Sixth Form our rule of thumb is that pupils should expect to spend as much time completing private study work as they spend in lessons.
There is a system of regular Reviews – reports on academic progress written by subject teachers, which are then discussed with pupils by tutors and Housemasters/mistresses before being sent home every half term by email. Each year group has an annual parent-teacher meeting, and additional meetings are held to discuss GCSE and A level options.
Internal School exams are held twice a year in the Fourth Form and Lower Fifth, and mock GCSE examinations take place in the spring of the Upper Fifth.
