Uppingham School is a vibrant community offering a huge range of social events and activities to cater to the tastes and interests of all pupils.

Our programme of social activities offers opportunities for fun and participation for everyone, encompassing music concerts, day trips, sporting competitions, visits to the theatre, black-tie dinners and a plethora of house-based events.

Most boarding houses host an annual house concert, to which parents and staff are invited. Many houses also host formal and informal dinners for different year groups, and there are year-group social events, including barbecues, concerts and DJ nights.

We recognise that in a boarding school it is particularly important to provide interesting and varied activities for pupils at weekends.

Our pupils can take part in Masterchef competitions, sports fixtures, paintballing, bowling, laser quest, cinema and museum trips – and much more. Pupils love to participate in our many inter-house competitions, which include sport, music, debating and other contests. They give every pupil the chance to challenge themselves and to enthusiastically represent their house, as part of the wider school community.

The opportunities for a rich and rewarding social life grow and diversify as pupils move through the school. The Thring Centre, which is our Sixth Form Social Centre, is open to all Sixth Formers throughout the week and to the Upper Fifth on certain evenings. It offers a social meeting place, with a sitting room, garden, pool table, table tennis and other games. Thring Centre activities are organised by the chairman, who is a member of staff, and house representatives, and include regular discos, seasonal themed evenings and school band concerts.
