Uppingham prides itself on providing the very best technology facilities for pupils in both academic and boarding areas delivering a very modern perspective of the School’s more traditional values of ‘all round education’.
In each academic department the right technology is employed to complement the teaching and learning with teaching staff and pupils having a wide variety of tools at their disposal: from the language lab (for teaching modern foreign languages) to the suite of computers used for creating digital music (in the music technology department). Online resources supplement the more traditional research materials available in the School and department libraries. Pupils can access many online resources such as JSTOR, an online collection of over one thousand academic journals and one of the most trusted sources of academic content on the world wide web. The School also generates an immense variety of course specific on-line media which pupils can easily access from our virtual learning environment, UPPnet.
In the boarding house, each pupil is given his or her own computer which provides a range of educational software as well as email and filtered internet access to complement their academic studies and ensure a fruitful but safe participation in cyberspace. All houses have a computer configured for Skype under the control of the Housemaster / Housemistress. This is situated either in the Housemaster’s / Housemistress’ study or in a tutor room.
The infrastructure to enable this high level of technology is immense with more than 1400 computers, more than 100 WiFi points, miles of fibre optic cable, fast internet access and an enormous variety of educational resources all supported by an in-house team of eight dedicated IT experts.
Technology never stands still and the School relishes the opportunities it presents to improve the education of our pupils.
