The Lodge is home to 45 girls who join Uppingham in the Sixth Form. A beautiful gothic-revival building dating largely from the 1860s, it is set in stunning landscaped grounds in close proximity to the Theatre. The interior has been much altered and improved in recent years and all accommodation now consists of single bedsits.
Alex and Kate Boyd-Williams joined Uppingham in 2014 and took over the running of The Lodge, along with their two daughters, Imogen and Camille, and their cat Lula. Kate and Alex both began their teaching careers at Millfield School and then spent five years in the Swiss Alps at Aiglon College, and were Housemaster and Housemistress at both schools.
Kate is a member of the Modern Languages Department and teaches French and Spanish as well as Wellbeing. She studied at Edinburgh University and spent some time abroad at Aix-en-Provence and Granada. After a few years of working in advertising and corporate skiing, she undertook a PGCE at Sussex University and then went into teaching. She also studied Mindfulness and Sophrology whilst working in Switzerland. Kate enjoys reading, running, the outdoors, yoga and interior design.
Alex, who is teaching English and Drama, read Drama at Aberystwyth University and studied at the European Film College, Denmark. He worked as an actor in theatre, film, and radio before undertaking a PGCE in English at Cambridge University. He taught English and Drama at Millfield School and later became Director of Drama. He greatly enjoys running, cooking and singing.
