ROUTES - BY CAR
If you have a satellite navigation system you will find postcodes below for some of the locations around the School. We have found, however, that such equipment doesn’t always send you on the most accurate route, and that in our experience the routes we have chosen are the quickest, in some cases by far, in that they are designed to maximise use of dual-carriageways and by-pass most towns.

All the routes below lead you into Uppingham, and to High Street West, which because of the one-way system, is the only approach to the main School buildings. You will then find the School Tower (200 yards up on the left, marked ‘26’on the School Map). Drive in under the Tower and park; the reception area and the Headmaster’s Office (‘29’ on the School Map) are straight ahead of you across the quadrangle as you drive in.

From the North heading South on the A1
Leave the A1 at the B668 exit, signed to Oakham: follow the signs for Oakham.  A third of a mile after entering Oakham, turn left at the roundabout onto Burley Park Way (which becomes the A6003) for Uppingham. After six miles, go over the roundabout and into Uppingham (¼ mile), over the traffic lights (by the petrol station and garage marked ‘H’ on the School Map), and then turn right in 75 yards into High Street West (just before the pedestrian lights). The School Tower (‘26’ on the School Map) is about 200 yards up on your left.

From the North West
The A50 meets the M6 at Junction 15 near Stoke, and takes you all the way to the M1 (Junction 24), where you should join the motorway for a short while coming off at Junction 22 (Markfield). Pick up the A50 to Leicester as far as the Outer Ring-Road, shortly after you have passed County Hall at Glenfield on your left.  Turn left at the big roundabout (you will see a big Hospital on your immediate left), and take the Outer Ring-Road following the signs for the A47 (Peterborough).  Eventually you will come to a large crossing with traffic-lights where you should turn left towards Peterborough. Follow the A47 for 16 miles, then turn right at the roundabout (Uppingham ¼ mile) and proceed according to the ‘From the North heading South on the A1’ instructions above.

From the North heading South on the M1
Come off the M1 at Junction 22 (Markfield) and proceed according to the ‘From the North West’ instructions above.

From the South and South East heading North on the A1 or M11
Since you can take the A1(M) north of Huntingdon, we would not advise the A14 to Kettering, but suggest you use the A1.  So use the A1 all the way to the A47, or if you are using the M11, you will find it becomes the A14 at Cambridge, and then follow signs for A1 North.  You actually join the A1 north of Huntingdon.  Leave the A1 after about 18 miles at the A47 junction, signposted Leicester.  In 14 miles at the roundabout just outside Uppingham, turn left to Uppingham , and proceed over the traffic lights (by the petrol station and garage marked ‘H’ on the map), turn right after 75 yards onto High Street West, and the School Tower (‘26’ on the map) is about 200 yards up on your left.

From the West Midlands, Birmingham and the South West
The best way for most people is to aim for the M42 Birmingham ring-road, and then the M6 southbound towards London. This may seem strange, but persevere. Take the M6, do NOT leave at the M69 junction, but proceed a few more miles and take the A14 turn-off to Kettering. 20 miles further on, take the Kettering exit from the A14, and then follow signs for Stamford and Corby, until you turn left at the roundabout (at which the A43 for Stamford goes straight ahead) onto the A6003 to Corby, Oakham and Uppingham. In 14 miles you arrive in Uppingham.  Turn left at the top of the hill into High Street West, just after the pedestrian lights in the centre of the town, and the School Tower (‘26’ on the map) is 200 yards up on your left.

From the South travelling North on the M1
Leave the M1 at the Northampton South exit (Junction 15, A508), and follow the Northampton ring-road until the exit for Kettering (A43).  Follow signs for Kettering, and at the Kettering ring-road take the signs for Corby (A43) and Stamford: then at a roundabout where the A43 goes straight on to Stamford, turn left onto the A6003 and proceed exactly as for the ‘From West Midlands, Birmingham and the South West’ instructions above.

From the East Anglia (South)
Use the A14, then the A1 northbound, and then proceed as for ‘From the South and South East heading North on the A1 or M11’ instructions above.

From East Anglia (North)
Use the A47, and follow it round the Peterborough by-pass, signposted for Leicester. Then when you reach the Uppingham roundabout (on the A47 itself) turn left into Uppingham, and proceed as for ‘From the South and South East heading North on the A1 or M11’ instructions above.
