Former pupil appointed to the House of Lords!
Old Uppinghamian John Gardiner, who is Deputy Chief Executive of the Countryside Alliance, has been nominated for a peerage by the Prime Minister David Cameron and will take his seat on the Government benches in the House of Lords. The 54-year-old is married to the sculptor Olivia Musgrave, lives in London and Suffolk, and is a partner of the family farm in Buckinghamshire. He was Private Secretary to the Conservative Party Chairman from 1989-1995 and also Chairman of the Vale of Aylesbury with Garth and South Berks Hunt from 1992 to 2006. He said: “I am very conscious of the great honour and responsibility following my appointment to the House of Lords and I look forward to making my contribution to public service. “My commitment to rural affairs is founded on the strong belief that a vibrant and working countryside and the communities within it are essential to the well being of our nation.” 25th June 2010 |
