Fairfield opened in 1975 as a Sixth form girls’ house when Uppingham began its co-ed journey. In 2002 an extension was built to allow the House to take girls from age 13.
The Fourth Form girls share in dormitories of two, four and six whilst the Lower and Upper Fifth enjoy large double bedsits; all Sixth Form girls have single rooms with en-suite pods. In addition to the spacious house dining room, there are three common rooms, two music practice rooms and a newly refurbished kitchen/dining area for the girls’ own use. The House is a comfortable mix of 1930s art deco and contemporary modernity with wide corridors, high ceilings and cosy seating areas where girls can relax.
The Housemistress, Katherine Robinson, joined Uppingham in 2015. Katherine teaches Geography and holds a BSc in Physical Geography and Geology from the University of Edinburgh and a PGCE from Manchester Metropolitan University. She also coaches lacrosse, hockey and rounders. Katherine is married to Dominic and outside her pastoral activities, she enjoys choral music, hill walking and skiing.
Before coming to Uppingham Katherine was Housemistress of the Lower Fifth girls’ boarding house at Woldingham School in Surrey. Previously she has been a boarding tutor and Lower Sixth academic tutor at Fettes College and Assistant Housemistress at Glenalmond College.
Katherine is currently on maternity leave, returning in January 2017. In her absence, Mrs Sarah Singlehurst is the Acting Housemistress.
