Football teaches players the values of hard work, resilience and endeavour – and it has an enthusiastic following among pupils at Uppingham.

Football is a thrilling and popular sport that offers a variety of challenges to pupils – both as individual players and as part of a team. In all aspects of the sport, we seek to encourage the values of hard work, resilience and enthusiasm.

Football has reached an exciting stage at Uppingham, with many eager and dedicated players, offering huge scope for the development of the sport. To encourage and inspire our footballers, we run pre-season trips which have included visits to Manchester City, Aston Villa and West Bromwich Albion, as well as to Vitesse Arnhem in the Netherlands.

Coaching

Many members of staff are on the football coaching team, drawing on their deep reserves of expertise and providing pupils with a range of perspectives. All coaches are involved in training players, selecting teams, coaching during matches and refereeing.

Facilities

Football is played on the Middle playing field during the Lent term. Three pitches are available for football, and we also use the UCC artificial pitch and the USSC sports hall.

Competitions

The 1st XI participate in both the ISFA Mercian League, and the LB Cup. Uppingham fields two senior XIs and one U16 XI, which participate in block fixtures featuring as many players as possible. All pupils selected for games play at least half a match.
