New House opened in 2004 and is home to 60 thirteen to eighteen year old girls. It is conveniently located on North Street West, just a few minutes’ walk from the main school. With all the advantages of a modern house, it has spacious common rooms equipped with kitchenettes, and has a light and airy feel.
The accommodation is spread over three floors and for the first year the girls share a four bed dormitory before moving into double bedsits for the two years up to GCSE. In the Sixth Form each girl has her own bedsit complete with en suite bathroom pod. Fiona lives in New House with her husband Nick, and has a grown up daughter, Laura.
The current Housemistress, Fiona Buckley, leaves from Uppingham in July 2016.
Fiona joined Uppingham in 2003, and was involved in the setting up of New House, prior to its opening in 2004.
Outside her teaching and pastoral activities, Fiona is in charge of girls’ aerobics and girls’ cycling, as well as being involved in language societies and departmental trips overseas.
In September 2017, Christina Papadopoulou, who currently a Deputy Housemistress at Ratcliffe College, Leicester, will take the reins at New House.
Christina has worked at Ratcliffe College since 2012 and has always been involved in the boarding community in one capacity or another.
Having studied Geography and Sports Science at Loughborough University, as well as completing an MA in Education, Christina’s specialist teaching subjects are Geography and PE. She is also an excellent hockey and netball player.
Miss Papadopoulou will marry over the summer and be supported in the House by her husband-to-be Nigel, so when she joins us in September she will be Mrs Breakwell.
