School House is situated in the heart of the School. Originally run by the Headmaster, since 1972 it has had its own Housemaster. Its proximity to the music schools and the Chapel make it convenient for musicians but, as with all houses, it is proud to be a blend of academic, sporting and theatrical talents.
Currently the first three years are accommodated in individual studies and dormitories, whilst the Sixth Form have their own individual bedsits. From September 2012 all the Upper Fifth will also have single bedsits. The outside spaces of a hard football pitch and grassy lawn offer spectacular views. These are supplemented by the large chapel lawn for summer football and the main School Quad in the evenings when the rest of the School has returned to their houses.
The Housemaster, Simon Tetlow, is a teacher of classics. He is a product of Stowe School and Pembroke College, Cambridge. Arriving at Uppingham in 1989, he worked as tutor and then senior tutor in a number of houses before taking over at School House in 2010. He was Head of Classics for ten years, coaches hockey and cricket, and continues to run the School’s golf team. More recently he has taken over as Contingent Commander of the CCF.
Simon is married to Katherine and they have three children, Rosie, Max and Kitty.
