Brooklands is the furthest of the three ‘Hill Houses’ from the School. Well-known for its gardens it boasts an arboretum, a swimming pool, a tennis court, a croquet lawn and fives courts.
It is home to around 55 boys aged 13 to 18 years accommodated in a mixture of small dormitories (Fourth and Lower Fifth) and single bedsit rooms (Upper Fifth and above). The main school is roughly 10 minutes walk away whilst the main playing fields are close by, across the road.
The Housemaster, Nick de Wet, grew up initially at Rondebosch in Cape Town before moving to England to continue boarding school life at Leighton Park in Berkshire. He read Biology and Oceanography at Southampton University before qualifying as a teacher at Loughborough University in 1992. After two teaching posts in independent schools in Suffolk, he was appointed as Head of Biology at Uppingham in 2001, and has also been master in-charge of hockey (2005 – 2010). Hockey involvement outside of school has included being head coach of the Midlands Region Hockey Association at U17 level. After 10 years of tutoring in Brooklands, much of that time as the senior tutor, he took over as Housemaster in 2011 where he now lives with his wife Rachel and their three children, Jacobus, Olivia and Sebastian, and cocker spaniel Poppy.
Apart from teaching biology and running the House, Nick is involved in coaching sport, especially hockey, science societies and excursions, as well as leading various skiing trips, tours and expeditions.
