We are delighted to announce that we will be opening a Day House in September 2024, and will be offering a new day option to pupils entering the School in 2024, 2025 and beyond.

The termly fee for day pupils joining the Day House in the 2024/25 academic year is £9,790. This fee includes lunch Monday to Saturday.

More information regarding scholarships and means-tested bursaries can be found here.

For families seeking to explore Uppingham’s new day offer, the first step of the process is to attend one of our Discovery Mornings. In addition to a tour of the school, the Headmaster, Dr Maloney, will articulate the vision and rationale for Uppingham’s new offer, Assistant Head: Pastoral, Rebecca Kay will explain the day offer, and Director of Admissions, Charlie Bostock, will clarify further the entrance process.

You can sign up for one of our Discovery Mornings by clicking the button below. If you are not available for one of these events but would like to register your interest, you can do so here.

All candidates are invited to send in a school report in advance together with a short CV of interests and achievements. These should be sent to Charlie Bostock, Director of Admissions.

Scholarship assessment is also available for entry into Year 9 (Fourth Form) . Our scholarship details are summarised separately. Candidates who wish to take Art, Drama, Music, Sport or Thring Scholarships will also need to attend one of our Test and Interview Days. Those seeking entry via an Academic Scholarship will not. The deadline for submission of Scholarship Forms is 15 January 2024.

2024 Entry – Year 12 (Sixth Form)

For Year 12 entry, those applying as day pupils for 2024 entry will complete the assessment process on an ad hoc basis. We will set up bespoke Test and Interview days to suit each candidate.

Prospective Sixth Form day pupils apply by our standard ‘Test and Interview’ process which involves an interview with a senior member of staff and three tests as follows: Maths (30 minutes, calculator permitted), English (45 minutes, essay based) and a chosen subject paper (45 minutes and a choice from: Biology, Business Studies, Chemistry, Economics, French, German, Geography, History, Latin, Music, Physics, Religious Studies and Spanish).

Where pupils are taking GCSEs, any offer made remains subject to the condition of securing a minimum of three ‘7’s and three ‘6’s at GCSE. There is further useful detail on the curriculum offered and information regarding subject-specific tariffs in the first twelve pages of the Sixth Form Options Guide which can be found at the foot of this webpage.

There will be an opportunity for us to consider applicants for Music and Sports Scholarships, but not for other scholarship categories (Academic, Art, Drama or Design and Technology) for 2024 entry.

Prospective Sixth Form Day pupils should attend one of our Discovery mornings and register formally with us (our registration form can be found online). They should also send in a school report, GCSE predictions, a short CV of interests and achievements and clarification of their chosen subject for the assessments. Offers will be made to successful candidates in March.

2025 Entry – Year 9 (Fourth Form)

The majority of Uppingham’s places for entry into Year 9 are secured through our pre-tests in Year 7. The window of opportunity to apply for day places in 2025 will be extended into the Summer Term 2024 and Year 7 pre-tests will be run for this group in the first half of the summer term.

Offers will be made in early June. Families should express their interest by registering with us following a visit.

The Year 7 pre-tests comprise a series of online assessments that are often sat at a candidate’s school. Where this is not possible, remotely invigilated sessions will be arranged from home.

The online tests involve 30 minutes each of verbal and non-verbal reasoning, 35 minutes of maths and 25 minutes of English. Candidates also undertake a 20-minute interview with a member of Uppingham staff and complete a 30-minute persuasive writing task. This interview and the written task are undertaken at Uppingham School. The order of the interview and online assessments is not important and there is no problem for the two to be separated by some weeks.
