Uppingham School has partnered with Viet Capital Education to develop and build a new boarding school in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

Uppingham Vietnam will be the first purpose-built branded school with full boarding facilities in the country and will open in 2023.

At Uppingham Vietnam, students will have the choice to be day students, weekday boarders or full boarders. Just like at its UK counterpart, boarding houses at Uppingham Vietnam will be designed to be family-like, and campus life will be enriched with additional holistic opportunities influenced by the successful co-curricular programme in place at Uppingham (UK).

Uppingham Vietnam will be a co-educational school for children from 11 to 18. The School will offer students a journey where they can forge their own path, which prepares them for success as they go on to global universities. In addition, all students will experience state-of-the-art classrooms, art and science buildings, gymnasium, pool, and football sports pitches, giving students an opportunity for the best all round education experience in South-East Asia.

As well as developing the educational offering available in Vietnam, the opening of the new school will create exciting pathways throughout the global Uppingham community. This will include the strengthening of Uppingham’s bursaries programme, enhanced opportunities for students and further professional development opportunities for staff and alumni. Students in both schools will also enjoy the educational benefits of interaction and collaboration with their peers from across the world.

The partnership between Uppingham School and Viet Capital Education was formalised at a ceremony on the 19th of November 2021. Connected via a virtual video link, contracts were signed simultaneously in Uppingham and Ho Chi Minh City.

Vietnam's Ambassador to the UK, His Excellency Ambassador Nguyen Hoang Long, visited Uppingham to witness the ceremony, which was followed by a tour of the School. The delegation from Viet Capital Education was hosted in the British Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City for their ceremony.

Viet Capital Education is an investment fund managed by Viet Capital Asset Management (VCAM). Mr Pho Pham, CEO of VCAM, said: “We are honoured to work with Uppingham School, whose visionary leaders pioneered liberal art studies, music, and sports in modern education. Together we commit to build a world-class institution that nurtures tomorrow’s forward thinkers, debaters, and creators. We aspire for Uppingham Vietnam to become a true alternative for Vietnamese students who may otherwise have considered studying abroad at a top school in the UK or elsewhere.”

Dr Richard Maloney, Headmaster of Uppingham School, said: “We are honoured and excited to be partnering with VCAM to open Uppingham’s first overseas school. Through this partnership we have the opportunity to design and build a state-of-the-art, purpose-built school which brings together the best of Uppingham and South-East Asia.

“Our relationship will establish strong educational ties between our two nations, and Uppingham Vietnam will bring myriad opportunities for everyone who is part of the global Uppingham community. Together, we can pioneer a defining educational vision for the 21st Century.”
