We were excited to formally open our new state-of-the-art on-site golf simulator last week in our new golf studio.

The Golfzon T1 Vision Premium is a professional standard golf simulator, which uses ceiling-mounted cameras to assess a golfer’s swing, track the ball and provide real-time statistics on their performance, such as spin rate, club head speed and ball speed. It also offers action replays for the golfer to assess their own technique.

Golfers are able to select to play on over 200 golf courses from all over the world, with a high-definition screen offering an accurate, detailed and realistic playing experience. Having this superior technology at Uppingham allows our golfers the chance to practice their technique and refine their playing style throughout the year.

The simulator was formally opened at an event last Friday by our pupil Golf Captains. We were delighted to welcome OUs, parents and staff to the event, with many choosing to have a go on the simulator. Amongst the guests was Alan Thomas (Hf 62), President of the Old Uppinghamian Golf Society (OUGS) and Derek Bunting (B 45).

The installation of the simulator was made possible by generous donors through the Uppingham Foundation. We are immensely grateful to have received this support from parents whose children enjoy playing golf at Uppingham, as well as members of the OUGS. The simulator is greatly enjoyed and appreciated by our pupils, allowing them to further improve their skills by utilising this innovative technology. There is also much enthusiasm around the potential opportunity for current pupils to have fixtures with OUGS players using the system in the future.

The OUGS is a hugely successful association of OUs which plays against teams of former pupils from other schools in a host of competitions nationwide. By supporting the golf simulator, the OUGS hopes to nurture great talent for the future.
