Remembrance Events

On Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 November, Uppingham commemorates the final World War 1 centenary year with a weekend of reflection, contemplation and remembrance with three events over two days.

All events are free to attend, with a retiring collection for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

Saturday 10 November - Call Over

7.30pm, Uppingham School Chapel

Sidney Morris is a man with a dilemma: stay at home with his family or follow his long-held principles and continue to look after those young men under his care. Call Over is an original play about friendship, duty and service and is loosely based on a true story.

Call Over is set in a public school boarding house and on the Somme Battlefields. Presented with an original score and contemporary techniques, the play will challenge your preconceptions of plays about the First World War.

Tickets required: email [email protected] to book

Sunday 11 November - Uppingham's 461

3.00pm - 5.00pm, Uppingham School Chapel

The names of Uppingham’s 461 lost soldiers of World War One are read by 461 of Uppingham School’s current students in a poignant tribute in memory of those who lost their lives.

11 November - Music for Remembrance

7.00pm, Uppingham School Chapel

An evening of musical contemplation to bring the weekend of remembrance to a gentle close, featuring a reflective selection of vocal, choral and instrumental music in the candlelit surroundings of Uppingham School Chapel.

Art Installation - Field of Remembrance

Throughout the weekend, on the lawn adjacent to the Chapel will be an art installation - the School's Field of Remembrance - comprising 461 ceramic poppies.  Each poppy has been made by an Uppinghamian and represents an OU who lost their life in WW1.
