Examination Results Achievement

Our congratulations to the 2023 leavers who have received their A level results today.

Alongside their peers in other schools, this year is the first time this year group have sat public examinations. Our Upper Sixth have shown great resilience and determination in how they have approached their exams and we are proud of them for the results they have achieved.

As announced by HM Government in September 2022, the grading of GCSE and A levels has been brought back in line with pre-pandemic standards by the examination boards.

Half of all grades were at A* or A, with well over 80% of grades achieved being A*-B. There have also been some excellent individual performances, and we extend special congratulations to those pupils who have achieved straight A*s.

Our pupils have also received confirmation of their places at many of the best universities in the UK and overseas, including Oxford, Cambridge, Durham, Edinburgh, Newcastle and Tufts (USA). Additionally, we have pupils going on to professional conservatoires, including the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

The Headmaster of Uppingham School, Dr Richard Maloney, says: “This year’s cohort are amongst the strongest we have seen at Uppingham in recent years. Not only have they achieved results they should be rightly proud of, but they have shown themselves to be a very impressive group of young people.

The Upper Sixth have led the School with energy and compassion and although today's results will open many doors for the Upper Sixth, ultimately what matters to us are the qualities of the person who steps through.

It is hugely rewarding for all of us involved in supporting the pupils through their studies to see their accomplishments, and my thanks to the exceptionally dedicated teachers who have been crucial to their success.”
